Grand Pavois Fishing 2024: a look back at the first round

Friday, October 4, 2024 saw the first round of the Grand Pavois Fishing event. The 35 teams set off at dawn this morning to do battle.

Beautiful fish in the main area

The start was given at 8:00 a.m. with clement weather and good conditions to make this first round of competition a fine morning, all the more so as this main zone has not been fished for several years due to disappointing weather conditions. The majority of crews therefore headed for the so-called main zone, the Pertuis d'Antioche, nestled between the northern approaches (including the Pointe de Chassiron) to the Ile d'Oléron and the southern approaches to the Ile de Ré.

A fishing zone where competitors were able to practise a variety of fishing techniques, using both fly and scratch fishing, on rocky areas, rifts and specific current corridors. These techniques paid off, as many sea bass were caught, both striped and speckled, including some very fine fish over 60 centimetres.

As weather conditions were unfavorable for the second round, originally scheduled for Sunday morning, the Grand Pavois Fishing organizers made the wise decision to bring the second round forward to Saturday, i.e. tomorrow. A decisive round to be followed live from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

See you on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. for the prize-giving ceremony and final rankings.
