Rodbuilding, make a Dragon Scale wrap in minutes

How to make a Dragon Scale wrap easily? When you assemble your cane yourself, the aesthetic dimension is important. The choice of the elements and the materials go in this direction. Ligatures are the step that rodbuilders spend time on.

What is a Dragon Scale wrap?

Ligatures are the last step when assembling a fishing rod and often the longest.

We often start by mastering different borders, then the urge sometimes comes to make wraps on long lengths. Not only is there a hand to be taken and the time required is relatively long.

However, it is possible to make a Dragon Scale wrap, that is, with raised scales, very simply. It takes 5 minutes longer than your usual ligatureâeuros¦ So here, step by step, how to proceed.

Etape 1
First step

Step 1

To begin, you need a plasterboard adhesive joint. Cut a strip 2 to 3 cm wide, then cut it to form an angle of about 60 degrees.

Second step

Step 2

Apply your tape perpendicular to your blank, 2 mm before the beginning of the area to be tied. Then, wrap it carefully around your blank, making sure to align the squares.

This handling is extremely simple, as the joint strip is not only adhesive, but also slightly stretchable, which makes it easy to adjust its position.

Once rolled and glued to the end of the desired area, carefully cut the joint strip with a cutter, perpendicular to the blank.

Third step

Step 3

You can now start your binding 1 to 2 mm before the joint band. I advise you to choose a metallic binding wire which will increase the relief and contrast thanks to the reflections of the light.

Be sure to tighten your coils to fit easily on the joint strip without leaving a gap.

Continue by tightening the coils as you go along to avoid having to use the burnisher at the end of the bindings.

You can see the relief gradually taking shape.

Fourth step

Step 4

Once you reach the end of the seam strip, continue your binding for 1-2 mm, making sure to slip a loop of wire to lock it in place, as you usually do.

Etape 5
Fifth step

Step 5

You can now varnish your ligature and wait for the varnish to dry.
