Aesthetically, the Benkei BIS-744MXH/FLE spinning rod from Major-Craft is quite simple, but successful. It is mostly black, with some orange and gold accents. The woven carbon on the beginning of the blanck gives a nice effect, although it could also have been used on the section between the reel and the butt.
The finish, such as the quality of the varnish and ligatures, is on point, and the rod seems solid. Finally, it should be noted that this rod from Major-Craft is also available in another flashier finish, with a yellow blank and silver edging.
The rod, which is composed of 4 equal sections, is delivered with a rather rigid and flat storage case, which allows to reduce its size, as well as two velcro fasteners to maintain the sections. This allows you to take it everywhere, while being protected.
Use
Even if on the surface, there is not much to criticize the Major-Craft rod, I must confess that I was not totally convinced by it during its use. The quality of the joints is correct, even if one suspects a little that it is a 4-piece rod. Its regular fast action is also correct and allows to cast with ease, at a good distance. Moreover, its long handle also allows to propel the lures at a good distance.
However, sensitivity is not its strong point, and even though it is rated at 7-35 grams, it is not comfortable with light weights and looks more like a 15-40 grams rod. This lack of sensitivity is probably due to its construction which seems solid, which on the one hand is what you would expect from a travel type rod.
It is therefore an all-purpose rod for use with lures that do not require absolute precision to animate them. It is very well suited for freshwater and sea fishing, in France on bass and pike. It can also be used for light exotic destinations, as long as you don't exceed the recommended 25 pounds of line strength.
To accompany him
A spinning reel in size 3000, with a 15 to 20 pound braid is the right compromise to optimize the balance of the set.
My opinion
To be honest, I find the selling price of 260 euros of this rod a bit too high, compared to what you can find at other distributors for an equivalent price, or even lower. It is a very good rod, but it would be better if it was sold at a lower price.
