In just a few years, the Bone brand of fishing rods has become the go-to brand for many anglers, especially those who want to travel light with multi-strand rods. Let's find out what's so special about them!
The name of the Bone brand simply comes from the name of its creator: Bone Lim. Based in Singapore, this fishing and travel enthusiast created his own brand in 2015: Bone Fishing World. The company specializes in the design of travel-sized fishing rods, but also features a few lures and single-strand rods.
Bone Lim is the creator of the Bone brand.
1) A wide choice of models
The big difference between Bone and the majority of other brands offering multi-strand fishing rods is that Bone offers a real multitude of rods, with different powers and actions, to cover a maximum number of needs. This point is really important and appreciated, as often the selection of multi-strand models concerns only a few references and the choice is limited.
There are rods for every technique!
With Bone and its multitude of choices, you're almost guaranteed to find exactly the rod with the power and action you want. Including spinning and casting models, Bone offers more than 40 rods, while the competition is mainly focused on a very small selection.
French distributor Way of Fishing offers a wide selection!
This selection of rods is mainly oriented towards freshwater fishing, with target species such as black-bass, pike, peacock bass, snake-head, papuan-bass, but in recent years a few models designed for sea use have made their appearance!
Each rod comes with a compartmentalized case for safe transportation.
The multi-strand format is so practical!
2) Absolute solidity
Bone rods are constructed from high modulus carbon and fitted with quality accessories such as Fuji K-Alconiteune guides. The choice of materials gives the rods good strength, but above all, the quality of the design and the precision of the joints are remarkable, giving the rods a perfectly respected bend, which is essential with multi-strand rods.
The solidity is there!
The thing to pay attention to is that some parts of the blank are raw, i.e. neither painted nor varnished. This choice has the advantage of giving the rod better resonance, but makes it more vulnerable to shocks.
This solidity is accompanied by a surprising lightness, but it should be noted that in general, the power of Bone rods is slightly overestimated.
3) Exemplary manufacturing quality
One thing you notice as soon as you pick up these rods is their meticulous finish.
Sockets fit perfectly.
Quality control is something the brand places great emphasis on, and there are no nasty surprises when you receive your cane: everything is well fitted, aligned and made.
The ligatures are strong and the rings well aligned.
4) A timeless look
Aesthetically, all the brand's rods are alike. They are black with a dark camouflage handle in shades of black and grey.
Black is an all-purpose color.
This sober look has the advantage of not aging badly, of always being up to date, and of not fading in the sun.
5) A fair price
Bone rods are priced between ?350 and ?850, depending on the model and range. Given the high quality of the rods, this price is totally consistent with the product and I find it very well positioned, especially for the voyages range, which is the entry-level model.
6) Durable, approved after-sales service
Finally, Bone rods remain in the catalog for a very long time, not to say forever... Since the brand's inception in 2015, some models are still around, and that's a very good sign! In fact, this means that the rods are still built, and there's a good chance of getting hold of a broken part, if need be.

My experience
As far as I'm concerned, I've always bought my Bone rods blind. In other words, I've never had them in my hands before ordering them, and each time I've never been disappointed - in fact, I've always been more satisfied than I imagined.
This is a brand that offers products that have undergone extensive testing in fishing conditions before being put on the market, and it shows, because there's nothing to reproach them for.
Bone rods follow me everywhere!
I'm not so keen on this brand's spinning rods. I'm not saying they're bad, far from it, but it's easier to find equivalents in other brands, so I haven't really had a chance to test them.
On the other hand, I find that the Bone brand's expertise really lies in the development of casting rods, which are simply stunning!
Travel X
Finally, the brand is constantly evolving, and has just announced the creation of a new range, called Voyage-X.
Something new for 2025!
This new range seems to be an evolution of the current Voyage series, from which it takes the latter's references, while adding a few additional models, a matter to be followed!
