1 - The reels
Fishing reels, in themselves, can travel in the cabin. However, the line they contain is not allowed. For this, they can be carried in the hold, but the risk of retrieving them with a pickup or a bent crank is too high and this can quickly compromise a trip! So I prefer to carry my reels in the cabin, without wire on their spools. A third solution is to take the reel in the cabin, but leave the spool with the line on it in the hold. In any case, a protective cover is highly recommended, it does not really protect from shocks, but it at least protects from scratches!

2 - Fishing rods
For those who carry single-stranded rods, there is only one solution, which is the Bazuka-type carrying tube. However, for those who opt for multi-strand rods, and their undeniable advantage of small size, there are several methods to take them. It is possible to take them in the cabin, it is more prudent to check with the airline you are traveling with, but in general they are accepted. Otherwise, it is quite possible to put them in the hold, in which case they must be protected with a rigid tube. This tube is provided by some fishing rod manufacturers, otherwise, it is possible to make one to the desired length with a PVC or cardboard tube.

3 - Decoys
Hooks are not allowed in the cabin, so lures must be carried in the checked luggage. To maximize space, I use large boxes rather than lots of small ones.

I hope these tips will help you fly with peace of mind on your next fishing trip.
