The legs
The three-layer system, described in the first article of this series, can also be reused to effectively protect the legs from the cold. The first layer should be a thermal undergarment, i.e. pants that will allow the transfer of sweat to the outside. The second layer is not mandatory, because the legs are less sensitive to the cold than the upper body, but a polyester jogging pant can be a good complement. Finally, the outer layer must be of good quality, and allow protection against the outside elements. Here, overalls are highly recommended, because they allow to go up high on the body, and thus it avoids the exposure to the cold at the level of the belly and the lower back and keeps the system well waterproof.

The feet
As for a use with waders, it is necessary to use at least two pairs of socks. The first pair is made of cotton, and the second pair is specially designed for cold weather, such as thermal socks. What will change, as the overalls do not have foot protection, is that you must use high and waterproof shoes, preferably padded inside. They need to come up to the ankles to ensure that the overalls cover the shoes well and avoid any heat transfer with the outside. A pair of sneakers or plastic boots should be avoided, as they will have no insulating power with the outside.

Finally, once well covered, it is the outside temperature which will be determining to go out fishing, because with the cold and the line which freezes in the rings of the fishing rod, below 0°C it becomes more complicated to fish.
