Good mobility
The advantage of the Musto jacket is that it is short in length. This allows to keep a good mobility. That's why I appreciate it so much in float-tube or in boat when we often alternate between sitting and standing position. Moreover, putting a lifejacket on top of it is not really restrictive.
Because it's short, even though it can be worn with pants, for optimal protection, overalls or fishing waders are the best complement. So, if you want to invest only in a jacket, it's best to go for slightly longer models, like the MPX Offshore Jacket. Its ability to move freely is also due to its thinness. Indeed, there is no padding and multiple thick layers, the quality of the Gore-Tex membrane alone is enough.
It should be noted that this is an insulating jacket, which means that it protects against wind and rain, without preventing the perspiration cycle from working properly. It is therefore necessary to complete this insulating jacket with a warm garment underneath, to store heat.
A warm collar
Another point I really like about this jacket is its collar, composed of two parts. A first part close to the neck, which ensures a good insulation of the upper body with the outside. The second part is high and covered with fleece to provide comfort in contact with the skin. It offers a good protection, because it covers the neck, the ears and the nose, a cap or a beanie is enough to bring a complete protection of the head. The bottom of the jacket is composed of a slightly elastic part, which, like the first part of the collar, isolates the body from the outside and avoids air exchanges.
The hood would be its weak point, because even if it is well waterproof and its fluorescent yellow color gives it a good visibility, it is badly placed and always tends to fall before the eyes.
A high price
The price of this jacket is high, which is unfortunately the case for most technical garments, as soon as Gore-Tex is used in their manufacture. However, it is an investment that must be seen in the long term and according to the frequency of use of this one. Anyway, the quality is there, as well with the comfort that this jacket brings towards the cold outside as in terms of solidity.
Going out fishing in the winter is worth some investment.
