The right weight for lead heads
If you're just starting out and want to fish without the headache, there are ready-made lures that you simply hook onto the end of the leader to start stalking.
For the more demanding angler, the market offers a range of mini lead heads with hooks up to size 6 and weights from 0.6 grams for very light fishing.
Some brands also offer barbless versions of these heads to minimize the risk of injury to trout, or simply for courses where barblessing is mandatory.

The shape of the lead head
These micro-heads come in a variety of shapes, all of which have a direct effect on the lure's swimming action and presentation. The best known is the round head it's very versatile and can be mounted on any type of lure.
One of its variations is the soccer head with its rugby ball shape, it gives the lure plenty of rolling, allowing it to show more of its flanks, an effect that does not leave trout indifferent.
The third and final head shape in regular use is the hovering head . Its triangular shape allows the lure to sink gently into the water when held, and to move out of alignment on a darting action, imitating a small fish wounded or on the run.
Different mounting options for a soft lure
- Classique association TP âeuros lure

The choice of hook size depends on the size of the lure, which should protrude about 1/3 of the lure's length from the head. This measure ensures that the lure retains enough flexibility and amplitude to swim perfectly, but is not too short to sting fish effectively.
- TOC mounting

Another effective set-up is one that resembles toc fishing. A small single hook at the end of the line and a lead sinker with several small buckshot hooks, to be adjusted according to depth and current speed. This variant makes it easier for trout to gobble the lure than with a lead head, an ideal trick when fish are fussy.
