What equipment for trout fishing with soft lures in streams?

To track trout in streams, it is necessary to have perfectly adapted equipment. On the one hand, to be really efficient both in casting and in striking, but also to have fun, even on small fish like those found in streams.

The importance of the power of the rod

The first point is the power of the rod. Remember, a rod is given to fish with a specific weight. For example, a 2-10g rod can be used with a total weight of the rig (lead head + lure) lower than 2g but the casting distance will not be optimal. On the other hand, you should not use a weight greater than 10g, otherwise you risk breaking the rod, which is not designed for this purpose.

For small stream fishing, it is very common to use lures weighing less than 2g, so you will need a UL (Ultra Light) rod with a power of 1-5g or 1-7g.

Ãeuros each type of stream its length of cane

As for the length, it will depend largely on the type of stream and especially on the vegetation, the longer the rod, the more precise your casts will be, but the more constraining it will be in the vegetation. There are very short rods on the market, from 1.20m - 1.40m, allowing you to fish in places with very dense vegetation, often little fished.

The best compromise if you are looking for versatility for different stream sizes is to use a rod between 1.50m and 1.70m.

Choose a multi-strand model, which is much more practical when moving through the vegetation.

Choosing a reel and line

Once the rod is chosen, it should be equipped with a small, light reel. A reel of size 1000 is largely sufficient, both in terms of capacity and power. The new materials used to manufacture reels are very light and it is not uncommon to find models weighing less than 180g at affordable prices and guaranteeing, by their lightness, a perfect balance on a UL rod.

This reel should be fitted with very fine braid (less than 10 hundredths) to guarantee a perfect glide through the rings for increased precision and above all a flawless feel for the lure, the real key to soft lure fishing.

For the leader, a nylon will be used to keep a minimum of elasticity and limit the stalls. Its diameter must be between 14 hundredths and 20 hundredths depending on the sectors fished and its length must be at least 1.50m, discretion is a must.

You now have all the cards in hand to track down the beautiful brookies. Needless to say, these magnificent fish are better in the water and are only too happy to grow before coming back to pose in front of the lens.
