Salmo Trek IV 2024 - A decisive second day in the rain

The first day didn't go too badly and we had to catch a lot of fario trout before joining the Arte team at the end of the day. The rain makes it difficult...

The alarm goes off at 5am and we have to get up, pack up the bivouac and get ready to leave at 6am.

Dantean weather conditions

A light rain accompanies us, but thunder rumbles in the distance. We fish out the lakes from the previous day and bring in a few fish. Unfortunately, we landed too many of them. We had a lot of short bites on the Native spoon 2.5 g and didn't land enough to really catch up. Already, our podium hopes are slowly fading.

Sous une pluie battante
In the pouring rain

All the more so as we have to take two long breaks without fishing, as the storm passes overhead. We put the rods down and take it easy in the pouring rain. We're soaked and it's really cold. It's very difficult, but we have to hang in there and keep fishing once the storm has passed.

The rain stops, and so do the trout.

We then decide to set off again and "get out" of the Barèges side. The climb up the passes is difficult, especially as we're still in our wet clothes.

Once over the Hourquette nère pass, we head back down to meet the Arte team.

Report for Arte

And it was in Port-Bielh that we met our friends from Arte. A highly professional team consisting of a director, a cameraman and a sound engineer. Even if it was a little extra work (cutaways, setting up microphones, miscellaneous questions...), we have to admit that they were very unobtrusive and let us have our cake and eat it too!

So we try to make a start on the char quota under the cameras, completely in the mist. With the Native Spoon 7 g I manage to catch 4 and Thomas brings in an extra fario.

It's already time to head for the Gourg nère bivouac below to spend the night.

Thanks to the Starlink satellite antennas, we can send in our catches and see the latest provisional rankings. We're in fourth place, but a long way behind Simon Scodavolpe and Matthieu Vieilhescazes, who also haven't yet caught their char quota.

The day went by at breakneck speed, despite the rain, the fish, the stalls and the long walk.

We lie down in our damp comforters, our clothes still soaked with water. It's going to be a very long night...
