Suzuki Master Fishing, a fifth stage in Lorient on the hunt

Lorient hosted the fifth leg of the Suzuki Fishing Tour this weekend, in collaboration with Franck Lauféron of Lorient Marine and Sylvain Garcia, local fishing guide and Suzuki brand ambassador. Hunting and dolphins on the program.

Difficult fishing

From Port Tudy on the island of Groix, the thirty or so participants had to prospect in fine, settled weather on a breezy stretch of water. Saturday's pre-fishing in a brisk westerly wind proved difficult. To enable the 11 crews, some of whom came from the Golfe du Morbihan and even La Trinité-sur-Mer, to recuperate in a convivial atmosphere, the former lifeboat shelter in Groix and Port Tudy provided the perfect spot for lunch.

Sunday morning is a completely different story. At dawn, the onshore wind was chilly and the quick briefing took place at Lorient La Base. The anglers had to alternate between careful observation of the birds to spot the hunts, and posted work on the areas spotted the day before. The fish are there, but they won't be easy to lure.

A few crews still made the quota at lunchtime. In the afternoon, the water was less agitated, but still very technical. However, one crew managed to climb back up the rankings on an established chase.

Entertainment on and under water

The spectacle of gannets, shearwaters, gulls, sardines, dolphins and sea bass, all united in the frenzy of the hunt, was a wonderful finale to a convivial and authentic weekend!

A total of 92 mesh bass were caught and, of course, released. That's almost half as many as last year, proof of the difficulty in dislodging the fish. A number of bonus species were also caught: Pollack, pollack, mackerel, gilthead bream, pout, horse mackerel, garfish and even a very nice Saint-Pierre.

The prize-giving ceremony took place after a beautiful sunset over the Port-Louis citadel.
