Powerful and solid material
The rod must be powerful. At present, we can fish for fishes exceeding 100 kg. In boat, float-tube or kayak, the rod should generally be between 1.80 and 2.40 m with a power of 100 to 300 g.
For vertical clonk fishing, it is preferable to use an inside line or pulley rod, because the rod is not held in the hand. It is placed either in the boat or in a rod holder. The tip must be above the boat, because there are many risks of entanglement braid / head rings during the drift.
For fireball fishing, the size of the rod will be between 1.60 and 2.20 m with a power of 100 to 400 g with high quality rings.
The reel must be above all robust, with a powerful front drag of 10 to 20 kilos. The axle, the pick-up and the foot must be reinforced. The crank handle should be reinforced with a large handle for a good grip. The reel should have at least 3 ball bearings and if possible 1 needle bearing.
As with all mechanical equipment, remember to oil and grease the various mechanisms and tighten all the screws every year. The proper functioning and longevity of your reel depends on it.
The spool must be able to hold 100 to 200 m of 40 to 60 hundredths braid. The braid of the line body must be extremely reliable, a 100% Dyneema braid is perfect. Indeed, this one has all the required qualities, without memory, without elasticity, of round section and tightened of 40 to 60 hundredth.
The braid should not twist or spiral when out of the water (excess braid on the rod tip or in the boat). I recommend Berkley Ultra Cat and Rhino Catline xh.o.
The leader braid must be very strong, supple, without memory or elasticity, doubled or braided if necessary, with a strength of 80 to 150 kg.
Vertical mounting with clonk
The rig for this type of technique could not be simpler. A swivel, a sinker, a leader, a single or triple hook with Canadian worms or squid strips. The use of an attractant is recommended for this type of fishing.
The rotating swivel is a black nickel-plated or chrome swivel size 5 to 8, with a strength of 20 to 80 kg.
The lead, olive, pear, drop, rocket, vertiglane, etc. of a weight between 100 and 300 g, can be colored or not. It is provided with an octopus or other dressing (plastic straps, beads, sound balls, etc.) according to your preferences.
The leader or stack will be between 5 and 70 cm in braid from 80 to 150 kg.
The hook will be single strong stainless steel or black chromium plated treated from 3/0 to 10/0 or triple very strong stainless steel tinned from 1/0 to 5/0.

The fireball assembly
The assembly for this type of technique consists of a lead equipped with a single hook and a leader with a triple connected to it with a fish as bait.
A fireball lead of 80 to 200 g, colored or not, is mounted with a hook from 5/0 to 9/0.
The length of the braided leader from 60 to 150 kg, will be at the discretion of the fisherman according to the size of the fish that serves as bait and provided with a very strong triple hook of tinned stainless steel from 2/0 to 6/0.
