Fishing in Haute-Corse means being able to fish in fresh water as well as in the sea. You can easily fish for trout in fresh water, and at sea, wolves and barracudas will be part of the game.

The trout fario

The Haute-Corse is famous for its large number of trout rivers. Of course, such rivers also exist in South Corsica. A large part of the Corsican rivers are actually rivers. In the latter, a very strong trout population is present and well established. The average size, although very low in most cases, can be very high in some spots.

On the small classic rivers, the quantity of fish between 15 and 20 centimeters is phenomenal and allows to have fun while looking for the number of catches. These small fish allow you to train on certain techniques, in particular dry fly fishing, on sight, which is particularly efficient. Several rivers have the particularity of creating very large trout, which can exceed 60 cm, although they are kept secret by the fishermen who know them.

The wolf

Due to the presence of many small rivers in Haute-Corse, the mouth areas are very frequent, especially on the east coast. Wolffish are fish that particularly appreciate the mouths where they can hunt. The Haute-Corse is a very fishy area which will delight fishermen who wish to attack wolffish with surface lures.

Near these mouths, we also find tassergals, liches and barracudas that do not hesitate to feed on wolves. Wolffish often stay under cover during the day, under a boat or near a dyke, then come out at night to hunt. They often feed on small mullet and other forage fish that come to eat the debris brought down by the river.

We can also find schools of wolffish going up these small rivers until they live in waters more fresh than salty, in which they adapt and survive perfectly well.

The barracuda

The barracuda is one of the most present large predators in Haute-Corse. It is mainly found around the ports, but it is present all along the coast. Although the average size of barracudas in Corsica is generally rather small, their number is very important. It is not rare to see schools of hundreds of individuals between 50 and 80 cm at sunset, when they get closer to the shore to hunt.

This population is so large that large individuals feed on their own smaller counterparts when food is scarce. This gives rise to very impressive hunts visible from the shore, in which throwing a lure is synonymous with a hit. Very few fish exceed one meter, although a small population exists.
