Simple, adapted equipment
Choose a rod from 1.80 to 2.40 m, with power from 2 to 10 g, and a reel in size 1500 to 2500 with 100 to 150 m of fine braid in 6 to 10/100.
A 10/100 to 15/100 fluorocarbon leader is sufficient for most situations, remaining discreet and solid for nice-sized perch.
Preferred times and positions
Go out early morning, late afternoon or evening, when perch are active along edges, near grass beds, bridge piers, curbstones or transition zones.
Look for shady areas, bushes or dead wood underwater: these hiding places attract small fish and thus the perch that lie in ambush.

Easy techniques for getting started
Start by fishing with simple lures: a small crankbait (4 to 6 cm), a soft lure on a 1 to 3 g leaded head, or a microeurosjig, in finesse.
Animate by dragging slowly over the bottom or by making small jerks, with occasional pauses, especially at the end of the ascent. Perch love to attack in the middle layer.
How to get started
A minimalist drop shot rig with a 1.5 to 3 g lead at the end, then a 30 to 50 cm length of fluorocarbon, and finally a small soft lure (shad) mounted on a 1/0 hook.
Cast over the edge, let the sinker touch the bottom and then shake the rod tip lightly. This rig is very effective for wary perch.

A few tips to multiply the number of touches
If you bite a perch, release it five to ten metres away from the spot so as not to disperse the shoal, then immediately cast again in the same spot as many perch follow the wounded fish.
Vary the lure colors (natural, flashy, white) and, above all, change the animation speed. A livelier animation sometimes triggers an attack when the slower rhythm fails.
