The different worm needles
There are several models of worm needles that will eschew most worms properly.
- The hollow needle with a point

In brass or stainless steel, the hollow needle with a point is the easiest to use. The point of the needle allows to penetrate more easily in the worm. One drawback, however, is that in order for the worm's head to be positioned at the hook, the worm must be threaded through the tail, which is not always easy when you are just starting out. Moreover, if the worm used is rather fragile, the point of the needle could damage it. Use preferably on hard or half-hard worms.
- The hollow bevelled needle

The bevelled hollow needle in stainless steel allows to facilitate the penetration of the worm on the needle. It can be used for threading dyke or sand worms for example. Its penetrating side may also tend to damage fragile worms.
- The ring needle with tip
The ring needle with a tip is to be reserved for the most delicate worms. The plastic and sometimes Teflon tip makes it easier for the worm to slide on the needle.
- The needle is hollow on both sides

The hollow needle with two ends and rounded tips is probably the best type of needle to use. Not only does it allow you to thread your worm on the hook in both directions, but it also causes less damage to the worm. It is ideal for baiting the most fragile worms such as the mourron or the cordelle.
The importance of the diameter
All the different worm needles are available in different diameters. It is important to adapt the diameter of the needle to the diameter of the worm in order to correctly lure the worm.
If the diameter of the worm is larger than the diameter of the needle, the worm will not fit properly on the needle and therefore on your assembly. Conversely, a needle that is too large will be more likely to damage the thinner worm.

The length to be taken into account
Last point to take into account to choose your worm needle, the length. Indeed, it is important that your needle is a little longer than your worm. This will make it easier to place the worm on the needle and on the hook.
To make your choice easier, most manufacturers mention the characteristics of the different needle models offered and their use.
