The trout fishing season opened last weekend. It was an opportunity to get rid of the lack of excitement by finding the beautiful farios of small Breton rivers. In the previous two articles, I introduced you to my selection of FIIISH lures with which I made the opening so than the strategy I had in mind.
Let's see if everything went according to plan.

Changeable weather
As I had announced, the weather was going to be the main preoccupation in the week leading up to the opening. We were treated to some precipitation the day before, which had the effect of tinting the water and swelling the river's volume.
As a result, I had to change my mind and go further upstream than the area I'd scouted during the week to find clearer water.

To my great surprise, there was no one in the area at daybreak. That's already a good point.
This course offers a variety of positions, alternating between riffles with strong currents and calmer areas where you'll need to fish slowly. The average depth is between 50 and 70 cm.
Confidence in solid values
My lure selection is based on the areas I'll be fishing this season, and they'll all be pretty much the same.
Naturally, for these first casts, I select my favorite lure, the Black Minnow 70 in minnow color. I consider it (perhaps wrongly) to be the safe bet, the one I start with.

Once again, he didn't take long to strike, and from the very first throw, the first touch was there!
The first small fario of the season is put out to dry before, of course, being put back into its element.

On this opening day, confidence is quickly established and the first damsels in their magnificent dresses are put out to dry.
I quickly alternate between the two black minnow 70 models I own, namely the double combo 70 mm in 3 and 6 grams. The Shore head for calm waters and the Off Shore for rougher waters.

A beautiful opening in the end!
I will have made the most of the opening weekend, which I consider a success, with many fish hooked and released.
My selection of equipment was effective. I didn't get a chance to test the Black Minnow in size 2 (90 mm), the size 1 (70 mm) doing the job. Later in the season, I have no doubt that the larger size will be available.
Usually, when the season opens, I fish upstream to slow down the action. This year, the trout were very active and I was able to do what I do the rest of the season, which is to fish downstream.
In this game, the Power Tail is formidable, and many a trout has been fooled by this little lure.
For this season, my selection of Power Tails is as small as it is effective.

Suffice to say, this lure is formidable when you're fishing downstream, slightly across the current. It proved its worth again over the opening weekend.

In the end, my selection of lures for the opening and the strategy I chose paid off.
