Spinners are lures that pull a lot of line. When used, the tension of the line is almost permanent.
Which cane to choose?
With a rod that is too stiff, the risk is to remove the lure from the trout's mouth when it attacks, as the rod does not provide enough slack for a good grip. Moreover, a rod that is too stiff causes a lot of vibration when using a spinning rod. It is unpleasant and uncomfortable in the long run. The ideal is to have a rod with a moderate or even parabolic action, or a fast rod with a full tip.
The length of the rod should be adjusted according to the size of the waterways fished.
Adapting your reel
For upstream fishing, this rod is fitted with a small high ratio reel. Its high retrieve speed allows to keep a permanent contact with the lure when it is going downstream.
On the other hand, for downstream fishing, I clearly advise against using a high ratio. A low or moderate ratio is much more relevant, especially for the extra torque (force) it provides. The spoon pulls hard on the line and fishing downstream with a high ratio is imprecise and tedious. What's more, it has a detrimental long-term effect on your reel.

Nylon, the most relevant
On this reel, I clearly recommend the use of nylon. For the same reasons as the properties of the rod: elasticity and flexibility to absorb the bites and vibrations generated by the spinning. The braid twists and generates knots very annoying in the long run, even with the use of a rolling swivel.

Accessories and tips
Finally, I always use staple swivels with rolling, even when the spoon is already equipped with a rolling head. This avoids and limits the twisting of the line caused by the rotation of the paddle. Twisting is really annoying, because in addition to the knots, it makes casting less precise and weakens the line.

For storage, a case is very effective for easy access to spoons that are perfectly stored. The foam also absorbs moisture to prevent oxidation of all metal parts.
Last tip, to keep the effectiveness of these lures, I change the hook of my spinners every season. A pair of wire cutters is needed to break the eye of the dull or oxidized hook. We then fix a broken ring on which we can place any type of hook: triple, single or double, and especially without barbs to better release its catches!
