For peacock bass, a minimum of two rods is required. If you fish freshwater lures, good news, you probably already have what you need on hand.

Bass peacocks

For a search for peacock bass, there is no point in oversizing the equipment. Even if it is a fish that fights well and that can be fished in crowded places, fishing it with too powerful equipment will take away all the pleasure, we must not forget that it is a fish that weighs between 2 and 6 kg on average, and can reach up to 10 kg for some species. Moreover, fishing several full days with lures requires light equipment.

An XH casting set

The reference rod for peacock bass is a casting model, with a power of 20-80 grams, a length of about 2m10 and a moderate fast action, to be the most suitable with the use of surface lures. This rod is to be equipped with a robust reel in size 100 to 200, filled with 50 to 80 lb braid. The large diameter of the braid is used to resist repeated rubbing on the shafts. This is where the importance of a casting set lies, with the possibility of using large braids without losing casting quality.

A spinning set H

In addition to this first reference rod, a spinning rod of a lower power, about 10-50 grams, with a good reel in size 3000 is the perfect complement. This makes a very practical set when you need to reduce the size of the lures, or to switch to bucktails jigs. A 40 to 50 lb braid is required for this set.

The leader of line

Local fishermen often connect their lures directly to the braid and do not use a leader. It is quite possible to put one to prevent obstacles on which the braid would easily cut, using a fluorocarbon in 60 or 80/100.

If there is still room and depending on your affinities, you can take a more powerful casting rod to use big lures, a fly rod to vary the approach, or a less powerful spinning/casting rod to look for the different species of fish present on the spot.
