The Rennes races were canceled due to a lack of participants
The 2026 French Street Fishing Championship schedule was set to begin on September 6 and 7 in Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine). However, these first two rounds will not take place after all.
In its official statement, the National Predator Fishing Delegation explained that the number of teams registered was insufficient to meet the minimum regulatory threshold of 15 teams. The organizers were therefore forced to cancel the two competitions in Rennes.
This was a decision with far-reaching consequences, since the French Championship was scheduled to consist of a total of four rounds.
The events in Narbonne have also been canceled
After Rennes, the competitors were scheduled to meet on October 10 and 11, 2026, in Narbonne (Aude) to compete in the final two rounds of the championship.
The FFPS states that it has explored various options for keeping the competition on track. However, given the schedule and the time constraints, the federation believes it is no longer possible to reschedule two new rounds to replace those in Rennes.
Without these two events, the format established for awarding the national title can no longer be followed. The races in Narbonne have therefore also been canceled.
No French Street Fishing Championship in 2026
The decision is now official: the 2026 French Street Fishing Championship has been canceled in its entirety.
Beyond the lack of a national title this season, this cancellation could have other repercussions. In its press release, the National Predator Fishing Delegation mentions possible implications at the international level, though it does not provide further details at this time.
This cancellation is a major setback for a sport that brings recreational predator fishing into the heart of urban areas. Street fishing, in particular, allows anglers to target perch, zander, pike, and other predators from the banks, docks, and waterfront areas of cities crossed by waterways.
For competitors who had planned to participate in the events in Rennes and then Narbonne, the 2026 national season has thus come to a premature end. We will now have to wait for further announcements from the FFPS and its National Predatory Fish Delegation to learn the sporting implications of this cancellation and the plans for the next edition.
