Tough weather and a game of pétanque
The competitors gathered on Friday, August 28, at the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez for the official briefing. The first day concluded with a festive meal at Casa Cri restaurant, giving the fishermen, organizers, and partners a chance to enjoy a warm and friendly gathering before the competitions began.
Originally scheduled for Saturday, the competition had to be postponed due to unstable weather conditions. Far from sitting idle, the teams then faced off in a game of pétanque on the famous Place des Lices. The MAGA team emerged victorious in this impromptu tournament.
20 boats at the starting line
The fishing tournament was finally held on Sunday, August 30, off the coast of the Saint-Tropez peninsula. Nearly twenty boats set out to compete in this catch-and-release tournament. The fish caught were measured before being released, in accordance with an approach aimed at preserving marine populations and biodiversity.
The awards ceremony was held in the presence of Pierre Roinson, president of the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez, and Jean-Claude Moreu, city council member in charge of port, maritime, and coastal affairs. Speaking on behalf of the mayor of Saint-Tropez, Moreu praised the work of the organizing committee, the SNST, Suzuki Marine, the volunteers, and the partners.
?Since its launch in 2022, this event has continued to grow and attract sport fishing enthusiasts,? he noted. The elected official also highlighted how this competition aligns with the city?s commitments to sustainable development and the protection of the Mediterranean.
The Clean Ocean Project trophy embodies this commitment by recognizing the crew that collected the most trash during its voyage. For this fifth edition, the award went to OSMOZ, led by Sébastien Mongruel.
Results of the 2026 Suzuki Master Fishing Tournament
In the Open category, Honalee, helmed by Nicolas Fournier of the SNST, took first place ahead of Antoine Drochon?s Papeete. Pluto, helmed by Alexandre Lefebvre, finished third, while Jérôme Piegts? Gecko placed fourth.
In the category reserved for boats equipped with a Suzuki engine, Éric Bartherote?s Jalae took first place ahead of Bernard Miramand?s A Fleur d?O V. Honalee and Nicolas Fournier also won the Scratch classification.
Arthur Jerbillet, aboard the Jalae, landed the biggest catch in the men?s division. In the junior division, Léo Fournier, aboard the Honalee, landed the best catch. The Big Game Fishing Club of France trophy goes to Axel, age 9, a crew member on the Papeete. Louis Piegts, age 10, aboard the Gecko, receives the special Junior award.
Beyond the rankings, this fifth edition has once again demonstrated that sport fishing, sharing, and respect for the environment can all move in the same direction.
