I have tested... / Blenny shad from Sico-Lure, a goby like no other to discover

The Texas rig has opened up a whole new world of possibilities for many anglers, enabling them to exploit previously impenetrable areas. Today, it's possible to choose lures designed for this purpose or to make your own rig. Very recently, however, a new family of soft lures has appeared, pre-headed and offering a protected hook for exploring the same areas.

The goby invasion

Although they are different species, gobies are now common not only in the sea, but also in freshwater, and are a favorite prey of carnivores that hunt particularly on the edges and in shallow areas. While this fish has long been widespread at sea, in freshwater it is gradually colonizing all rivers and streams from eastern France to central France.

This "invasion" considerably alters the population of the environments concerned, as well as the feeding habits of carnivores, especially percids.

At sea, they are one of sea bass's favorite prey, so numerous are they on the foreshore.

It is therefore natural and logical to present lures imitating this small fish to boost results.

A 4X4 lure

Goby-imitating lures are few and far between on the market, but are multiplying every year. Sico-Lure's Blenny Shad is particularly interesting for its profile and imitative character, of course, but above all for its design. In fact, the dorsal fin has been developed to cover the tip of the hook, like a Texas rig, allowing it to slip through rocks and seaweed without snagging. For shore anglers and those prospecting areas overgrown with vegetation or structures, the Blenny Shad is the perfect ally!

A relatively rapid descent

There are two lures with this profile on the market. If we were to compare them, the Blenny Shad has a faster descent than its competitor, enabling it to prospect deeper or more hectic areas, particularly in the sea. With its internal sinker, this descent is still gliding and quite different from a soft lure mounted on a classic sinker head.

What's more, its inverted paddle ensures immediate action as soon as the lure descends and during the slowest retrieves.

Well-chosen colors

The Blenny Shad is currently available in a single size that perfectly matches the average goby size, i.e. 95 mm for 18 g. However, it is available in 7 different colors to cover all contexts and situations.

A French concept

While this in no way predicts its effectiveness in the field, the fact that Sico-Lure is a French lure brand is for me a compelling argument.

If we can now take advantage of high-quality, effective lures at the water's edge, which also help to develop employment in our region, it makes sense to encourage their development.

Its effectiveness in the field

For my part, I've only tested the Blenny Shad at sea for inshore sea bass fishing. It's perfect for fishing areas up to a maximum depth of 8 metres when current and wind allow. But it's in the 0-5 metre zone that they really come into their own. Particularly effective when fishing close to the bottom with slow linear or scrubbing lines, and especially when bass are focused on gobies, but also on crabs, feeding on the bottom.

Its perfectly concealed hook doesn't pick up seaweed and clears perfectly when hooked. What's more, it's solid and spicy. A sure value that I'll continue to use in 2026 for my shore or boat fishing close to the coast.
