New 6 HP Mercury EFI outboard motor, fishing without a license

Mercury Marine has just announced the launch of its new EFI 6 hp outboard motor, a compact model combining power, simplicity and innovation, specially designed for the French unlicensed boat market.

Key features

  • Based on the proven 209cc platform of Mercury's 8/9.9hp EFI engines.
  • Electronically injected twin-cylinder for high torque, quick starts and low fuel consumption.
  • Multifunctional tiller for single-handed control of steering, speed and acceleration.
  • Available in tiller or remote control versions.
  • Ideal for boats up to 4.6 m (15 ft) and rental fleets.

Benefits for anglers

  • Maximum power of 6 hp, which corresponds to the legal limit in France without a license.
  • Large displacement for powerful torque and improved manoeuvrability, even on heavier boats.
  • Optimized fuel efficiency thanks to EFI and low maintenance requirements (no oil filter or valve adjustment).
  • Fast, convenient fresh-water rinse system for extended motor life.

"By launching an EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection) twin-cylinder model, Mercury significantly improves user comfort and the overall experience, providing superior torque, smoother operation and greater responsiveness," said Facundo Onni, President of Mercury EMEA. "This strategic launch also enables the brand to strengthen its presence in the no-license engine market, since the 6 hp engine represents the maximum power allowed without a license in France, an essential criterion for many boaters."

Official launch

The Mercury EFI 6 hp premieres at the Le Grand Pavois boat show in La Rochelle, France, from September 23 to 28, 2025. This strategic novelty strengthens Mercury's presence in the highly sought-after low-power segment, combining regulatory compliance with a high-end experience for boaters.
