River and stream cushioning are typical spots for predator fishing. At certain times of the year, they are the only ones that can be fished and, above all, the only ones that will allow you to make some great trips.

Specific conditions
If there's one particular context in which bait fishing takes on its full meaning and surpasses all other types of spot, it's floods. Indeed, during these climatic episodes, flows are so great that white fish and larger predators alike seek out areas sheltered from the current to feed and rest with comfort and ease.
Large gatherings of whites and carnivores
As the surface area of the baits is ridiculously small compared with the total surface area of a river, the concentrations of whitefish and, of course, predators are very high on these spots during floods. There is such a density that it's very common to feel fish passing through the line and even to see them navigating as close as possible to the bank. On this type of spot, it's really possible to catch a big fish at your feet!

Catfish and pike-perch in the lead
High water is synonymous with dirty water, and while it's obviously possible to catch perch and pike-perch, it's mainly pike-perch and catfish that will be anglers' favourite targets during these episodes.
There are different moments during a flood. Rising water levels are a particularly productive time. The period when the water begins to clear, once the flood is well established and the rainy periods have passed, is also often prolific.
Slow-scratch or linear fishing
The difficulty for predators in this context is obviously to locate your lure and target it. This is why it's best to fish slowly, scraping or line fishing with regular breaks. While there are obviously peaks of activity during the day, fish are also very often inactive, and a slow-moving lure may decide to give them a timid, but sometimes sufficiently powerful, nudge.

A flashy color or black
In turbid waters, flashy colors and black are the most visible and can help you trigger more bites. White is also effective and shouldn't be overlooked. In the same spirit, rattles and attractants can be effective accessories.
Heavy fishing pressure
The baits are often well-known spots for experienced anglers and represent a small area of the river. As a result, the density of anglers is also high and this fishing pressure means that predators are very wary. You'll need to be persistent to find a peak of activity, and don't hesitate to vary your lures and animations to stand out from the crowd.

Identify the right heights
With experience, outing after outing, season after season, you'll notice that your spots work at a certain moment of the flood, and especially of the water level and flow. So pay close attention to these parameters to optimize your route on future outings.
