Test / Axopar 29 CCX, comfort and performance worthy of a sports boat

Like all Axopars, the 29 CCX is a very seaworthy boat.

The Axopar 29 CCX inherits the Finnish shipyard's expertise in hull design. This translates into remarkable handling and performance well ahead of many competitors, as we see in this third part.

In its 10 years of existence, Axopar has proved that it knows how to design beautiful hulls, and the 29 CCX is no exception. Compared to its predecessors, the 29 benefits from an improved hull, with a little more support at the bow and a bow raised by around 10 centimeters (4 inches) to cope better with rough seas. For the rest, the boat benefits from its light weight compared to many center console hulls. In fact, once planing, the Axopar literally flies over the surface of the water, the forward third merely skimming the crest of the waves, while the aft chines provide maximum stability.

What's more, the two large steps facilitate planing and significantly reduce the wetted surface. This not only enhances performance, but also reduces fuel consumption and improves comfort. At the helm, this hull is a pleasure to handle, comfortable to ride and great fun to pilot if you push the throttle a little.

Up to 400 hp and 54 Mph

For the occasion, the 29 CCX was equipped with a 400 hp Mercury Verado V10 outboard. This powerful engine allows you to reach 54 Mph (47 knots) at 6,300 rpm. Lift-off is achieved in just four seconds, and cruising speed is set at around 34 mph (30 knots), even with 7 people on board... Rather sporty results which, what's more, are achieved smoothly, without you feeling close to the limit. A good point for sports-minded fathers, who can always be sure of getting everyone safely back to the marina.

For more conventional use, you can seriously make do with a 250 or 300 hp engine, which already offers a very good compromise. For certain markets, notably the United States, the shipyard also plans to offer the boat with twin engines, which should give it even greater stability, even if this will increase the weight a little at the stern.

On some markets, the 29 CCX is available with 2 x 200 hp.

Thanks to the bow thruster, manoeuvring in a crowded marina is a breeze, and last but not least, stability at anchor is a real plus, whether you're swimming or fishing.

Last but not least, the 29 CCX comes with a 600-liter (158-gallon) fuel tank, giving it a range of up to 300 nautical miles with 400 hp, which isn't bad at all.
