Go fishing as soon as the sea starts to form!
Shore fishing in the foam can be practised all year round. Of course, autumn, winter and spring are the periods when seas are most likely to be rough. But sometimes, at the height of summer, an easterly or mistral wind picks up and the sea forms.
If you can fish in the foam on the Mediterranean all year round, in summer, a simple swell of the sea can completely change the behaviour of the fish and put them on the hunt for food. What's more, in summer, the water is usually crystal-clear, so fish are very wary. A coastline strewn with foam will be a great opportunity to lure the wolffish, bream, sars or bream that will be on the move.
The right spots for meerschaum fishing
Of course, it's on rocky coasts that you have the best chance of fishing in a foam-filled sea. Without taking any unnecessary risks, rocky plateaus and heavily indented coastlines are the best spots for this fishing technique. Take the time to scout out the different spots and their approach, and end up choosing the most practicable and most likely to hold fish. Experience is often needed in this type of fishing to quickly find the best spot.
A simple pebble beach, a small accessible cove, or an ordinary bottleneck, with just a few square meters of foam and a few dozen centimeters of depth, can hold fish and become good spots to prospect. Foam fishing is mainly practised during the day, as it's dangerous to fish in rough seas and on slippery rocks.
However, if you can find spots with foam that are easily accessible at night, without taking the slightest risk, it's possible to make great fishing simply by fishing with bait. Whether you're fishing with a pellet, cork or lure, rely on foam to increase your results and the size of your catch.
