I have tested... / Ima Somari 140, a lure for reaching long distances

Ima seems to be developing more and more large lures for exotic fishing, and that's not to our displeasure! Let's take a look at what the Somari 140 has in store for us, and what the keel under the head gives underwater.

Somari 140

Ima's Somari 140 is a sinking stickbait, but at first glance it differs from the traditional lures in this family with its prominent keel at the front.

La quille fait vaciller le leurre de gauche à droite.
The keel causes the lure to wobble from left to right.

At constant speed, this keel gives the lure a pronounced swimming action, forming a stretched S shape, quite atypical for this type of lure. The keel also gives the lure a pronounced rolling action, as it swivels sharply to either side, showing its flanks to fish below.

It accepts medium to fast recovery speeds, but not very fast, because if you go too fast, it will stop swimming. The same applies to the current: it tolerates a medium current, but will stall if the current is too strong.

Le Somari 140 est destiné à la pêche en mer.
The Somari 140 is designed for sea fishing.

As far as the Somari 140 is concerned, its construction is as solid as its appearance suggests. Inside lies a mass transfer system, which facilitates casting and improves the distances reached.

There are also balancing balls, but these are fixed and the lure is silent. Unfortunately, it doesn't have an internal frame, but it still seems solid.

With its 62 grams and internal mass transfer, it can reach really long distances, which is exactly what we're looking for with this type of lure.

What's more, the strong point of the Ima brand is that the lure is fitted as standard with broken rings and hooks that really hold up! So there's no need to change your tackle, the lure is ready to face the biggest predators.

The only thing that can be foreseen, for ethical reasons and to simplify unhooking, is to use single hooks on the lure, while keeping the original broken rings, which are very strong.

Des hameçons simples sont bien adaptés.
Simple hooks work well.

If this is the case, I suggest you use singles in size 3/0, which allows you to keep the lure's descent speed more or less the same.

Last but not least, the colors available are very sea-fishing oriented, with a majority based on white and silver.

Use

The Somari 140 is the ideal lure for shore fishing when you need to reach long distances. Its slow sinking density means it can be reeled in both slowly and quickly. It's a lure clearly designed for sea fishing to seek out a multitude of species receptive to this type of stickbait.

Bass, barracuda, striped bass, tuna, trevally... The list of potential targets for this Somari 140 is long.

My opinion

Ima is a brand that doesn't just offer what all the other brands offer, but always successfully innovates.

The Somari 140, like most of Ima's lures, is well designed and very easy to use. What's more, with its quality hooks - the brand's strong point - it's ready to catch the biggest predators.

Finally, Ima is a brand that has maintained competitive prices for years, unlike many brands that have raised their prices... The Somari 140 is offered at ?36, which, given the quality of the lure, is excellent value for money.
