Aira Cobra 160
The shape of the Aira Cobra 160 is very simple, with a typical stickbait body and a slightly curved, V-shaped popper mouth.
But this lure's strength lies not so much in its aesthetics, similar to other poppers, but in what's hidden inside.
It has several noisemakers and a through-beam frame, giving it absolute solidity against the biggest predators.
Once on the water and animated by strong pulls, the lure performs a "pop" that I would describe as discreet. It is possible to animate it more gently, in which case it performs a walking the dog, accompanied by the typical popper pop.
It's original to see a lure capable of having a floating stickbait swimming action, combined with the noise made by a popper. This adds an intermediate option between a popper and a classic stickbait.
As is often the case with poppers, and the Aira Cobra 160 is unfortunately no exception to the rule, the lure doesn't cope well with waves, and if they're too big, it becomes unusable.
Use
The construction and strong hooks of the Aira Cobra 160 make it ideal for strong fishing and fish capable of breaking lures with a snap of the jaws. Medium-sized tuna and trevally are ideal targets for this lure!
It can also be used for sea bass and all popper-sensitive species such as mahi-mahi, roosterfish, liche, small red carp and aimara.
My opinion
Used to seeing smaller lures from Ima, it's with great success that the brand tackles larger models, intended for strong and exotic fishing. Given the approved strength of their smaller range, I have no doubts about the durability of this 16-centimetre popper.
With its noisy beads and sturdy frame, it is ideal for large predators.
We can only hope that Ima continues to develop other large lures of this quality, aimed at exotic fishing.
