Carrying just one fishing rod, whether you're on foot, kayaking, float-tubing or traveling, makes things a whole lot easier! The versatility of the Bone 684 XH makes it easy to pack light, so let's find out more about this rod.
Aesthetically, nothing has changed at Bone, with the brand's highly successful, sober look.
Grey and black camouflage has its charm.
This look features a camouflage handle in shades of grey and black, with a raw carbon blank. The blank used is a 100% TORAYKA 4-axis crossed carbon, and the rings mounted on this rod are Fuji K-Alconite.
The action of the rod is continuous, so you don't feel the grip.
The rod comes with a compartmentalized carrying case to store the 4 sections once dismantled.
The rod comes with a neoprene cover.
In terms of rod action and joint quality, it's simply perfect. The action is exemplary, and there's no play in the joints.
Last but not least, there's a white dot on each element for easy alignment.
Alignment is easy!
When you look at the rod's features on paper, it may seem very similar to the BVC 704 XXH reference, but these are two different rods with complementary uses.
The moderate fast action of this BVC 684 XH is less pronounced than with the BVC 704 XXH, but it's there all the same, making this rod very pleasant to use.
Its name says XH, but when you hold it in your hand, you're dealing with a rod that I'd describe as M for medium, so light, tactile and easy to handle. In fact, the rod's power rating is 14-60 grams, but I'd adjust this to 7-50 grams for optimum, pleasant use.
The rod is light.
This moderate fast action, found along the entire length of the rod, gives good cushioning on the head strikes of big fish, resulting in better control of the fight, improved striking and reduced risk of stalling.
What's more, this same action allows you to cast and work the lures comfortably.
Use
The Bone BVC 684 XH casting rod is ideal for fast power fishing in search of black bass or pike. It allows you to use a good variety of lures, such as Texan-mounted soft lures, small hard swimbaits, top waters, jerkbait minnows and others, making it very versatile, which is exactly what you want from a travel rod!
Abroad, it is equally at home fishing for peacock bass or snakehead.
To accompany it
A small, light castingreel in size 150 is the ideal companion for this rod, keeping it well-balanced and making it a fast, easy-to-handle combo. As for the line, 30-pound braid keeps the rod versatile and allows you to use lures weighing between 10 and 60 grams.
A size 150 reel is ideal!
My opinion
Again and again with Bone, the rod is a pleasant surprise and super pleasant to use. It's just as I imagined it would be: light, solid, very well finished and with a superb action! It's a good all-round rod for both pike and black bass, with a good variety of lures.
