Dragon titanium leader
The titanium leaders of the Dragon brand are offered in three lengths, 15, 25 or 40 centimeters. For the pike, I advise to take systematically the model 40 centimeters, which makes it possible to give the maximum safety vis-a-vis their teeth, because one is never safe from a fish which comes to attack in front of the lure.
The leader is thin and discreet, taking the length of 40 centimeters is also justified by the fact of positioning the line that comes from the reel at a distance far enough from the lure, while a leader too short, positions this line in the field of vision of fish.
Regarding the resistance, depending on the model, it ranges from 5 to 18 kilograms. The difference of flexibility and discretion being rather negligible between the sizes, I recommend to go directly to the biggest resistances.
Classic, Big Game, Ni
Dragon offers three titanium references, the Classic, the Big Game and the Ni.
They have quality crimps and are protected by a heat-shrink tube. They are mounted with a rolling swivel on one side, to be connected to the main line, and a clip on the other to attach a lure.
The only thing I often do, before using these leaders, is that I remove the provided clip, replacing it with a 40 to 80 pound broken ring. The size of this ring depends on the size of the lure I am attaching.
Classic
The Classic is the reference that offers the widest range in length and strength. Thanks to this wide variety, it can meet every situation for fishermen who are looking for a specific product. It is of good quality, solid and rigid. It is good for fishing with hard swimbaits, pike jerkbaits and all lures that require a rigid leader.
Big Game
The Big Game is similar to the classic model, but it comes in a heavier weight, up to 18 kilograms. This leader is also equipped with a larger rolling swivel than the other references.
This is my favorite model for fishing with big hard swimbaits and looking for big pikes.
Ni-Titanium Wire
Made from a composite of nickel and titanium, the Ni-Titanium is the highest end of Dragon's line. It is the most flexible of the brand, unfortunately for us, it is also the most expensive, but its price of 9.90 euros is still very correct, especially since it is durable.
This flexibility gives it greater versatility and it is able to stretch slightly when stopped abruptly, such as when shoeing, making it less brittle.
Its flexibility, comparable to steel, makes it usable on all techniques where steel would be used. It is therefore perfect for use with spinnerbaits, jerkbait minnows, lipless, texan soft lures and many other lures.
On demanding destinations, like Sweden and Canada, I have friends who had to use only two or three leaders during a week, while we are talking about forty pikes per day.
With steel, this figure would have been multiplied by five to ten, and I'm not even talking about fluorocarbon, unthinkable to use on this kind of destination.
For intensive pike fishing, it is stronger, more durable and more economical than steel!
My opinion
Dragon is a brand you can trust completely and there are no worries with these titanium leaders, such as crimping defects or unexpected breaks.
They have a long life span and, depending on how often you fish, you may use two or three leaders per year. So don't stop at the price of a titanium leader, because it lasts a long time and guarantees 100% protection against pike teeth!
As soon as you notice that the leader is bent, as a preventive measure, it is better to change it than to continue using it.
Finally, in addition to titanium, Dragon offers very good steel leaders and solid shallow mounts that meet the needs of pike anglers.
