Gantarel
The first thing you notice about the Gantarel is its tall, unusual shape.

This shape is actually quite logical, as it echoes that of freshwater whitefish such as rotengle, bream or toad. The fins on this lure are reminiscent of a black bass or crappie, a North American fish.

All its fins, including the tail fin, are made of hard plastic. This is good for longevity. However, care must be taken, especially during transport or when throwing close to obstacles, as they can break.
When retrieved continuously, the Gantarel's stroke forms an elongated "S" which deviates moderately from its retrieve axis, with good rolling action. It's possible to give sudden accelerations or even jerk the Gantarel, which tends to throw it completely off axis. This is very interesting, especially if accompanied by a pause of a few seconds, as it can trigger the touch of a following fish. What's more, it's a slow floater, which is a good point for taking breaks.
Its swimming depth is around one meter, and it reaches this very quickly thanks to its hard fins, which help it to dive, like a bib on its nose.
It is armed with two treble hooks, each with a few feathers for added attraction.

Both hooks are connected to the lure by a rolling swivel, and even the line connection ring is fitted with a rolling swivel.

This configuration allows the line to twist less and reduces stress during a fight, which in turn reduces the likelihood of landing a fish.

Another ring is placed under the head to attach a lead clip, while a final ring is placed on the tail, which can be used to attach a paddle.

Five colors are available for this reissue. There are three realistic ones, two perch and one carp, very well realized, with a printing process that allows for details such as scales.

The other two colors are rather original, both with pink, and the one called UV secret mat black gill seems particularly interesting as it offers a dark lure.
Use
Originally designed for black-bass fishing, the Gantarel's size is not optimal for searching for this species in France. It's better to reserve it for pike fishing, for which it's very useful!
My opinion
Illex has the "unfortunate" tendency to make references disappear from its catalog and reappear a few years later, and the Gantarel was no exception to the rule.
Be that as it may, seeing it reappear in the catalog is excellent news, as it's a good decoy, with a fine construction, good animation possibilities and an original shape.
