The Mediterranean Sea lends itself perfectly to trolling for many species. Whether it is with hard lure, soft lure or live bait, each season and each fishing area can hold beautiful surprises.

Trolling along the coast

Troll fishing along the coast can be done by boat or kayak. Euros using small hard or soft lures, you will be able to catch a large number of medium-sized fish species along the rocky and sandy coasts. Palomines, garfish and wolffish often gravitate around the mouths and beaches.

In the vicinity of the rocky coasts, the oblades and the redfish are present in large quantities to offer nice fights on light material. During the summer season, you can also meet barracudas and silt if you focus your efforts on sunrise and sunset.

Trolling for pelagic fish

Fishing for pelagic fish is surely the most fun technique when trolling. Fish such as mackerel, pelamids and tuna are biting hard and sometimes take several dozen meters of line. You can target these migratory fish when they are in the area, and when they are not or only slightly hunting at the surface.

The best seasons are undoubtedly spring and fall when anchovies and sardines arrive in large quantities near the coast. This technique is even more effective when the sea is slightly agitated. The noise of the waves created by the wind covers the noise of the boat and allows to be more discreet.

Trolling for live fish

Trolling can also be done using livebaits. Of course, it is first necessary to catch one of the various species of shore or pelagic before being able to use it as a livebait.

Live trolling generally targets large fish such as amberjack the lich, the denture , the pike-perch and even bluefin tuna. Blindfolds, billfishes and redfish are easy to catch in the summer season and are an easy prey for large predators. Small pelagic fish such as mackerel can also be used, tuna fish or bonito.

The live one par excellence is the squid. It allows you to catch a multitude of predator species and works in all seasons. However, its fragility makes it not very effective over a long fishing session, which is why you will need a livewell to keep some healthy.

If you want to drag a large squid or livebait, don't hesitate to bring a strong and powerful set to deal with these large predators.
