Presentation of the ident
The denti or dentate (Dentex dentex) is a species of the sparidae family. It is a benthopelagic fish, which means that it can evolve as well near the bottom as in open water. Its massive body varies from blue to pink through gold. The denti has an impressive mouth with a set of teeth with fangs on both jaws. Its eye is yellow with a dark spot on top.
It is a solitary fish which can also be in small schools on funds from 10 to 200 meters. It appreciates rocky bottoms in marked places (dry, rocky head, lead...). It can reach 1 m, weigh more than 10 kg and live up to 25 years.

The reproduction
The reproduction starts as soon as the water begins to warm up. It takes place in spring, between March and June. Curiously, the denti has no legal catch size, yet it is a slow growing fish species. It is increasingly rare in some places and there are fewer and fewer very large subjects. The practice of no-kill must be part of the behavior to adopt for this emblematic species.
A true predator
The denti feeds mainly on fish and mollusks. It is able to hunt in all water layers depending on the location of the prey. It attacks as well rock fishes, as sparidae or pelagic fishes such as mackerels or snappers. It appreciates mollusks, cuttlefish, squid or octopus.
The fishing of the denti

Denti fishing is done either by boat or by kayak to reach a certain depth. In some places, it is also possible to fish from the shore.
The denti can be fished in different ways. You can fish for them with the fire ball technique.
Denti are also fished with lures, either by dragging hard lures over the bottom or by fishing vertically with large soft lures or jigs. Depending on the size, the denti is a real fighting fish especially during the first minutes of the fight.
