A good day of fishing does not mean that the next day will be as good. After a good start, for this fifth day, the fish were not there, and to make the link with one of the previous articles, the wind was non-existent! This is the perfect time to take the time to observe the environment.
Seals
Seals are numerous in the Gaspé Peninsula and it is easy to see them. Generally, they can be seen when they are in the water; their resting place on land is well hidden.

The only thing is that seals and fishing don't mix, so you have to give them a free pass. Indeed, even if there is no risk that seals will take a fishing lure, they will nevertheless go after the catch that a fisherman brings back. Therefore, you should not fish. The presence of seals is a good indicator that the area is good for striped bass, just come back to fish it when they are no longer on the spot.
The whales
As far as whale watching is concerned, even if it is possible to see whales from the shore on the Atlantic coast of the Gaspé Peninsula, I recommend going to the towns of Tadoussac and Les Escoumins, in order to take an excursion dedicated to whale watching.

This is an area where every summer whales come to feed near the mouth of the Saguenay River. You can have the chance to see a great number of species, such as the minke whale and the great fin whale, the humpback whale, the porpoise, the beluga whale and even the blue whale which ventures there some years. On this portion, the St. Lawrence River is about thirty kilometers wide, but it is possible to take a ferry to reach the other shore, and thus go to Gaspésie.
