Fishing in lure hunts
This outing starts as soon as we get in the water, at daybreak, with some big hunts going on. I can see the birds starting to bite, a sign that there is some activity below. The kayak is rigged and I head for the hunts dragging one of my favorite lures of this late summer, a 3DB Shad from Yo-Zuri.
It will not stay long to hang out alone, I will make several fish the time to arrive on the zone. There are more and more birds to dive, over several hundred meters. Change of lure, I mount a 3DB Pencil this time, a surface lure with a natural swim in walking the dog. From the first casts, the fish go up on it and they are "splat" which follow one another during a good hour. The attack of a bass on a surface lure is always strong in emotions and always violent.
As I decided to do several spots today, I put away my surface lure and I put back my swimmer fish, the hunts are still very active and I have the impression that all the birds of the area are there. Direction the other spot then, with my swimmer fish in the water, there also the fishes are going to follow one another at a good rate.
I arrive on a deeper zone and change for a bigger lure, a Deep diver in 130, still from Yo-Zuri. This lure goes down to 4 meters deep with a strong rolling action. It won't take long to trigger the attack of a nice nervous fish, a second one will follow quite quickly, before I arrive on a shallower area where I will put the lure of the start.
Place for soft lure
Here again, a few fish will decide, always bass, until I move on to the third part of my session, fishing with soft lures. In fact, I will use only one, a sardine colored Astushad, mounted on a 20 gram Talashad head, a Breton lure from Astufish.
I fish this time on the edge of the plateau, on a bottom of 7 to 14 meters. The fishes follow one another, sea bass of course, horse mackerel of good size, and even cuttlefish. The conditions (tide and stormy weather) have brought in a lot of forage, so the predators follow.
I stop around noon, because other bigger predators followed the smaller ones, a big troop of bottlenose dolphins, attracted by this manna. Again, I am treated to the birds diving with the dolphins below hunting. My pedal kayak will allow me to follow them for an hour, mingling closely with their hunts. What a privilege to be on the water at that moment and to share it with them!
A fishing break on foot
But the session is not over, as said at the beginning, it is also the high tides and I still have half an hour of descent. A break on the foreshore will allow me to pick up three big sleepers for the evening meal, they are quite full and the sector is well populated. After the fishing session and the snack eaten in a magic place, it will be time to come back.
The Indian summer, we often talk about it, in fact, it's just the summer that continues longer this year. When the planets align, in this case, the high tides, stormy weather, the presence of a lot of forage, it can only give a beautiful session.
Don't hesitate to use several techniques during the same session, it is often a guarantee of success. Even if today was an exceptional day!
