I have tested... / The new generation of blanks for bluefin tuna fishing: the RPK range from NFC

Bluefin tuna fishing is on the rise and in Brittany, 200 to 300 kg specimens are common. North Fork Composite offers this year its new RPK blanks allowing to cast light lures and to restrain these overpowering fish without exhausting the fisherman.

To restrain a fish of more than 200 kg, without exhausting the fisherman and by throwing lures of a hundred grams is the specifications which were provided to NFC for the creation, in collaboration with Rodhouse, of a new series of blanks for the bluefin tuna fishing. From this 3 years long development work, was born the RPK range which is already a sensation on the Breton boats and has already a great number of bluefin tuna to its credit.

Description

The RPK line of blanks is designed by Al Jackson and Khiem Nguyen of North Fork Composites,

After several drafts, Alex Maslov, the boss of North Fork Composite, presented a first version based on a nickel-based technology, known in the composites world as a breakage retardant, because of its elasticity close to fiberglass

Then NFC developed another technology in which the carbon fibers are no longer unidirectional, but randomly distributed. The final version of the RPK range was born from the combination of these two manufacturing processes.

Light and strong

The objective of this range was to be able to cast lures without getting tired, but above all to be able to face the giants that inhabit our waters while sparing the angler as much as possible. Thus, on the test machines, the RPK blank range could support up to 30 kg of drag at 45° for a weight of only 257 g (for the RPK 72). This is a series of blanks that can throw from 60 to 200 g and are designed for a line class of 130 lbs; ideal characteristics for large Breton bluefin tuna.

3 lengths for 3 needs

The RPK range is available in 3 versions to meet different needs and uses. From 7 feet to 7.8 feet in single-ended and 1 + 1, anglers can choose to focus on length to animate poppers or gain casting distance or reduce the lever arm and give the angler the advantage in a fight.

The RPK 70 blank

The 7 foot model is the only single rod in the range. Despite its length, it allows you to catapult a Crazy Eel 220 or a Feed Popper 175 without any problem.

The anglers who will choose this blank are undoubtedly those who wish to favour the fight. Its reduced length allows to reduce the lever arm and thus to favour the angler during this phase of the fishing. Its single strand construction limits the possible breaking points. The absolute weapon for those who are looking for a specimen!

La RPK 70 est une monobrin relativement courte pour une à lancer, ce qui permet d'obtenir un bras de levier en faveur du pêcheur lors des combats.
The RPK 70 is a relatively short single rod for a spinning rod, which allows for leverage in the angler's favor when fighting.

The RPK 72 blank

The RPK 72 is the shorter of the two RPK blanks in butt joint (1 + 1). It is an excellent compromise for those looking for casting distance, good range of motion and power reserve. Moreover, it is the least bulky for those who wish to travel.

The RPK 78 blank

Finally, the RPK 78 blanck is the longest of the range. It allows you to cast at very long distance and favors the amplitude of animation to realize beautiful and long trails of bubbles with your poppers. A blanck designed for surface fishing enthusiasts!
