Going fishing in Quebec is an accessible dream for many fishermen who love wide open spaces. Magnificent landscapes where you can fish a multitude of different species while speaking French.

What is interesting with destinations where it is easy to move around is that you can dedicate a few hours or days of your trip to fishing, and on top of that visit the country, alone or with your family.

Entry requirements

A valid passport and an AVE, for electronic travel authorization, which must be requested on www.canada.ca are the two documents required to enter Canada as a tourist.

Regarding the measures taken during Covid-19, the PCR test is no longer required, but the Arrivcan application is still requested. It is advisable to inquire, but overall, the steps are no longer as cumbersome as they once were.

The language

Many fishermen do not dare to travel because of the language barrier. Here, there is no fear to have, French is the official language of the province, it remains only to familiarize with the accent, which can be destabilizing at the beginning, especially in certain areas.

The access

The main cities of Quebec, Montreal and Quebec City, are served by direct flights from several French airports, which is a good thing to get to your destination quickly, without multiplying stopovers. Moreover, the flight takes 6 to 7 hours, which makes this destination easy to reach.

The budget

As far as the budget is concerned, the destination is unfortunately not as cheap as it was before the appearance of the covid.

The prices of airplane tickets, car rentals and accommodations have risen sharply, but remain similar to those in France. The Canadian dollar is also on the rise, which does not help the situation, but there is still the possibility of making a nice trip for a decent budget.

The fishing permit

To obtain a fishing license, simply go to a fishing store or a department store that has a fishing section, such as Canadian Tire, Sail or Walmart, for example.

Please note that you will have to choose the non-resident permit, which costs about $86 for one year. It is also possible to purchase a 1, 3 or 7 day permit, depending on the frequency of fishing you plan to do.

When to go?

To hope to catch a maximum of the different species found in Quebec, in the same trip, you must plan your trip between mid-June and the end of September. This way, you will be able to take advantage of having all the species open for fishing.

The last two weeks of August as well as the first two weeks of September seem to me to be the most favorable in terms of fish activity.
