The worms

The shells
The mussel is one of the shellfish often used as bait for sea fishing. But there are many other shellfish, each more efficient than the other, which give very good results. Cockles, razor clams, limpets or clams, many shellfish are on the menu of fish.
Shellfish have the advantage of being quite cheap and sometimes they can even be harvested easily by the fisherman himself. Some of them hold very well on the hook while others are less resistant. Sparid fishermen know very well the efficiency of shells to catch sea bream or sar.
Crustaceans
The crustaceans most used as bait for sea fishing are mainly crabs and shrimps. Crabs, because of their shell, hold very well to the hook and allow to target the so-called noble species such as sea bass or sea bream. They also allow to offer big bites and to avoid to be cleared the hooks by the small fishes.

Cephalopods
Octopus, squid or cuttlefish, cephalopods can be used whole or in pieces depending on the targeted fish. Their very good hold on the hook makes it easier to fish for long periods with the same bait.
In addition, they allow the angler to go fishing for their own bait, a way to double the fun.
The fish
Whole, in strips or in pieces, all fish can be used as food for other fish. A bait always present on your various fishing grounds and thus always likely to be used as prey to the various carnivores.
From the shore or from a boat, the use of whole fishes allows to target the biggest fishes present in the sea.
