Fish turbot with baitcasting, what equipment for this type of fishing ?

The turbot is stalked from the boat. For this type of vertical fishing, nothing better than a baitcasting rod. It offers the advantage of keeping contact with the line at all times.

Why baitcasting equipment ?

The turbot is a bottom fish. This flat animal blends in with the sandy scenery and leaves the substrate to hunt. To target it in front of the boat, spinning and casting rods can be used. But it is more logical and accurate to use a baitcasting set. This is for two reasons: First, when dropping the line, just the thumb on the trigger is enough to get line going while maintaining control of the line. In other words, when you hit the button, just press the spool with your thumb and strike! Second, these reels are winches that offer more torque and power. They are suitable for strong fishing in the current.

Which cane?

It is necessary to choose a firm rod with a consistent weight: 20-80 g for a casting weight, 80-150 g for a jigging weight. The first weight corresponds to the weight tolerated when casting hard, the second indicates the weight that the rod can support vertically. These two types of rods have a different design, but have the same tensile strength. Of course, you can go further by using large landing rods and substantial sinkers up to 300 g. It works, but the fun in fishing action will not be there.

Which reel?

A baitcasting reel is better suited to this type of fishing. You should opt for a powerful model in a large size. A round aluminum body is perfect. Any bay jigging model will do. Models designed for big bait in freshwater can also be suitable provided they are well rinsed after use in saltwater.

Which braid?

The 0.16 to 0.18 mm braid is perfect for providing the necessary strength while easily crossing the water layer in a strong current.
