Pike fishing, take advantage of fall conditions to look for them

Summer is now behind us. Clouds, rain and wind have replaced the blazing sun, autumn is the right season to go pike fishing.

Summer conditions

This summer, France has again experienced waves of high temperatures accompanied by a drought due to lack of rainfall. A situation not very favorable to fishing, especially for pike.

For my part, all the pike I caught during the summer were caught by accident while looking for other species. I don't fish in hot weather, because pike are more fragile in these conditions, fighting or handling them out of the water can kill them and this is not the goal.

Fall is coming

We are now in autumn, the trees are starting to lose their leaves, temperatures are dropping in the air and in the water and the long awaited rain is making its comeback. Pike fishing specialists know that this is one of the best times of the year for stalking Master Esox.

Indeed, the latter has just spent a good part of the summer fighting against the heat and the lack of oxygen. But now, the rains have cooled the lakes, ponds and other rivers. The water is cool and well oxygenated. The fish also perceive this change in temperature which tells them to stock up for the winter.

That's why this straddling season between summer and winter is one of the best for pike fishing, but the pre-winter feeding frenzy phenomenon is the same for other fish.

Which fishing technique ?

Fishing with lures or natural baits, everything works at this time. However, we must increase the size of our lures compared to those used in summer and slow down the animation.

A bite of 10 cm to 15 cm is perfect for pike, we can even go up to 20 cm or 25 cm on large bodies of water or to select only very large fish. Live fishing also gives good results in this season.
