Community fishing groups join forces with reservists
Through this charter, the FNPF reaffirms its commitment to raising awareness of the operational reserve?s mechanisms among its member organizations and their members. Its network brings together thousands of local associations and 68,000 volunteers who are actively involved every day in fisheries management, the protection of aquatic environments, and community outreach.
In particular, the Federation is committed to informing its members and raising their awareness of the various forms of service offered by the National Guard. It also aims to promote agreements supporting the operational reserve policy and to foster cooperation with the armed forces, the National Gendarmerie, and the National Police.
This cooperation is based on shared values: a commitment to service, collective dedication, responsiveness, and a close connection with citizens. These are all qualities shared by reservists and volunteers in the nonprofit sector.
Useful Skills for Local Communities
For its part, the General Secretariat of the National Guard will help raise awareness of the skills reservists have acquired during their missions. Discipline, adaptability, responsiveness, teamwork, and the ability to act in complex situations are skills that can be directly applied within fishing associations.
Reservists interested in recreational fishing and the conservation of aquatic ecosystems will thus be able to join the FNPF?s network of associations. Their experience is a valuable asset in supporting on-the-ground initiatives, such as monitoring the environment, raising public awareness, maintaining waterways, and organizing local activities.
A partnership that is also focused on the environment
This new charter extends the partnership established in 2024 between the FNPF and the Command for the Environment and Health. This collaboration aims, in particular, to strengthen efforts to combat environmental damage and to promote better coordination among stakeholders in the regions.
Pollution, the degradation of aquatic habitats, poaching, and threats to biodiversity all require collective action. Thanks to their local presence and their knowledge of rivers, bodies of water, and species, volunteers in community fishing organizations are in a unique position to observe, prevent, and report these threats.
By bringing together the worlds of community-based fishing and the operational reserve, the FNPF and the National Guard aim to encourage all forms of civic engagement. This partnership is designed to better protect aquatic environments while strengthening solidarity and resilience in local communities.
