Lure fishing in Corsica, general information you need to know

Corsica is a paradise island, ideal for shore fishing. However, there are a few precautions to be taken and information to be had before setting out to tackle the beaches, rocky points, harbours and other estuaries that are ideal spots.

Corsica is an island in the heart of the Mediterranean that's full of fish. Many vacationing anglers take with them in their luggage what they need for a few fishing sessions. Here is a non-exhaustive list of useful information for lure fishing from the coast on the island of beauty.

What's the right season for fishing in Corsica?

Most of the anglers reading this article will be fishing in Corsica during the summer. Summer is an ideal time to go in search of large predators such as liche, tassergal or barracuda. If this quest proves rather thankless during the day, it's perfectly valid in the evening, or even at night or early in the morning when the coasts are still deserted.

In late summer and early autumn, you can make a few dolphinfish or denti from the shore.

Autumn is a good season for wolfish and rockfishing. Cephalopods are also very present in the evening, such as squid, octopus and cuttlefish.

Barracuda are ubiquitous and can be caught in all seasons

In winter, you can still fish for wolffish, horse mackerel and barracuda, both of which can be caught all year round from the shore!

Spring is the ideal time to look for sparids, but beware of the denti's resting period from mid-March to mid-April.

Which fishing spots?

There are plenty of spots on board. They are all interesting at one time or another, depending on the species targeted! However, beware of prohibitions!

There are several fishing reserves in Corsica (RNC, Réserve Naturelle de Corse) where fishing is strictly prohibited. These include the Scandola and Bouches de Bonifacio reserves. You can find out about the limits and regulations of these reserves from local fishing stores (Best of fishing in Porto Vecchio and Bonifacio is a good one!), Géoportail ("Réserve de Corse" map) or on the Corsican local authority website.

In addition to the reserves, some ports are closed to fishing. This is often the case in summer, but after this season, fishing is often tolerated. For more information, contact the harbor master's office of the port you wish to fish in!

A l'instar du mérou, le corb est lui aussi une espèce protégée qu'on doit absolument relâcher
Like the grouper, the corb is also a protected species that must be released

Still on the subject of prohibitions, almost all the coastal brackish ponds are off-limits to recreational fishing. These are reserved for a few professional fishermen who hold fishing leases. Among other things, they produce poutargue, a refined dish made from mullet oocyte!

Finally, as a reminder, it is forbidden to catch two species that are nevertheless very common, and which are subject to a moratorium: grouper and corb.
