New Force Kraken electric motor in 48-inch size

A few days ago, Garmin announced the release of a new model of its Force Kraken electric motor with a 48-inch shaft. This model is suitable for smaller boats, including pontoon boats, bassboats and skiffs.

Force Kraken features

The Kraken's brushless motor uses a high-performance propeller to produce a thrust of 45 kg (100 lbs) on a 36-volt system or 36 kg (80 lbs) on a 24-volt system, measured according to an ISO (International Organization for Standardization) static thrust measurement standard. This motor runs longer than brushed versions, giving you the opportunity to extend fishing trips without fear of battery failure.

Wireless integration with Garmin chartplotters and connected watches allows anglers to create routes, patterns and trails for the electric motor to follow while fishing.

Thanks to the Kraken's LiveScope? cable management system, anglers can easily route the probe cable inside the electric motor shaft, simplifying the installation of a real-time sounder. With the Kraken's LiveScope mounting bracket (not included), any LiveScope sounder can be installed and used in all three modes: Foward, Down and in Perspective.

Some Kraken models feature an all-in-one GT56UHD transducer, with ultra-high-definition ClearVü and SideVü echo sounders, as well as a traditional CHIRP sounder for exceptionally sharp images of structures and fish below and to either side of the boat.

The Kraken's virtual anchor offers Garmin's most accurate positioning technology to keep the boat in the same place, thanks to multi-band GPS signal reception and the integrated Heading and Altitude Reference System (AHRS).

The wireless remote control allows you to control the Kraken electric motor: precise virtual anchoring, autopilot functionality, course keeping and gesture steering. It's also possible to pair the Kraken with a compatible Garmin connected watch, such as the quatix® 7 series, to control steering, virtual anchoring and more, directly from the wrist.

Robust, reliable design

The Kraken is designed for harsh marine environments and to withstand the most extreme fishing conditions. The finer leading edge of the propeller reduces drag and maximizes thrust, while the trailing edge reduces water aeration, which can cause cavitation and hamper thrust. Strong and durable, the robust composite shaft and all components offer enhanced protection against corrosion and salt water. It comes with a 3-year general warranty, a lifetime warranty for the shaft, and the support of an extensive network of service providers.

Prices and availability

Available now, the 48-inch Force Kraken is offered in black and white at suggested retail prices of ?4,399.99 and ?4,599.99, respectively. Other Force Kraken models include 63-, 75- and 90-inch shafts for white versions, and 63- and 75-inch shafts for black versions. All black Force Kraken models are sold with a GT56UHD probe.

"The addition of a new model with a different shaft length to our award-winning Force electric motor range reinforces our commitment to providing the best electric motors to all our customers. Whatever the type of craft, freshwater fishing boats, shallow draft boats, center consoles or multi-species fishing boats, the Force remains a benchmark for power and efficiency, and we're pleased to expand our Kraken range with a 48-inch model." Dan Bartel, Garmin vice-president of worldwide sales.
