Will recreational fishing soon be banned in France?

Faced with an influx of anti-fishing positions, some politicians are reportedly ready to introduce legislation to ban fishing on French territory. Fishermen will have to mobilize!

A steady stream of protesters

For some time now, the number of opponents to recreational fishing has been growing steadily, particularly on social networks. For several months now, a number of groups claiming to protect the animal world have been trying to undermine our practice.

Petitions, demonstrations, TV shows - these people want to ban recreational fishing altogether. Unfortunately, some retailers have already capitulated to these actions, for fear of losing customers who don't fish. In some stores, for example, it is no longer possible to buy livebait for predator fishing, and some mayors of large or medium-sized towns are trying to ban fishing in their communities.

No-kill fishing also under attack

Even though a significant number of anglers nowadays practice no-kill to preserve the resource, the anti-fishermen try to highlight the suffering of the fish to exacerbate the uselessness of this practice. Perhaps they prefer fishermen who practice their passion purely for food? We find it hard to believe, and none of our initiatives seem to satisfy them.

Politicians ready to prove them right

It's in this rather poisonous atmosphere that several politicians have just decided to propose a law to ban recreational fishing throughout France! We still don't know the exact date on which the bill will be submitted to the French National Assembly, or what it will actually say!

The Fédération Nationale de la Pêche en France (FNPF), along with all the members of the trade association dedicated to defending the interests (economic, technical and regulatory) of manufacturers, importers, distributors and retailers of fishing tackle on the French market (GIFAP), take this proposed law very seriously, and call on all anglers to prepare for future mobilization in an attempt to save our passion.
