Loun, a young vagabond orphan, spends his days fishing to support himself. One day, as he crosses a swamp, he meets Nahal, a young salamander with a unique but disabling feature: her body glows underwater, making it particularly difficult for her to hunt fish.
Their chance encounter attracts the attention of King Fish, a powerful and angry being who rules the waters. Inadvertently, Loun and Nahal provoke his wrath and find themselves embarked on a great adventure. On this aquatic road trip, they discover not only how to overcome their own challenges, but also how to rely on each other.
