When you pick up S-Craft's Black Voodoo 76 Voyage, the first thing you notice is the superb finish. The rod is all black, and the blank is covered with black paint and a good coat of varnish, making the whole thing very classy.
Aesthetically, the cane is a success!
Compared to the previous model, the area between the reel seat and the heel has been lengthened by about 4 centimetres, which is very good.
The new Black Voodoo 76 is better balanced.
I found the handle too short on the old model, but this fault has been corrected and the rod is now better balanced.
The heel is well-proportioned.
On the other hand, the new reel seat is rather unusual, being made entirely of plastic rather than EVA foam, as is often the custom with lure rods.
The old handle was more comfortable.
This choice of materials and its non-ergonomic shape make the rod less pleasant in the hand, especially when the outside temperature is cold, as the plastic is colder than the foam.
The reel seat is not the most successful.
The accuracy of the joints is spot on. This ensures a perfect rod action from butt to tip, without the rod being divided into 4 sections.
Fittings fit perfectly.
The same goes for the ligatures, which are well made and look solid. The rings used are also well made.
Ligatures are well executed.
The rod is finished with a very supple solid fibre tip. This suppleness reduces resistance to touch. As a result, the fish sucks in the lure without feeling any resistance, and the quality of the strike is very good, as this gives the fish time to get the lure properly in its mouth.
This feature is highly appreciated when fishing for small fish, making the Black Voodoo 76 a great rod for rockfishing. The tip is white to improve the visibility of bites, even if it is above all thanks to the rod's tactile feel that you feel the bites.
As far as the tactile feel is concerned, it's simply extraordinary, and with what you feel in your wrist, you can deduce what's going on at the bottom of the water and detect the slightest touch, suction or obstacle.

Finally, and this is worth emphasizing, as it should be for all multi-strand rods, from all brands... S-Craft supplies a rigid carrying tube and a bag, making this a rod that can be taken anywhere, without danger. A real advantage for street fishing and travel!

Use
With its solid tip, this rod is ideal for fishing small fish with soft lures. Its power allows it to cast soft lures from 2 to 3 inches, with lead heads from 1 to 4 grams, at very respectable distances.
Even though it's a small rod designed for small fish, it's perfectly at ease on fish weighing a few kilograms, and you can still work them with authority. So if you accidentally catch a big pike, bass or carp, even if the situation is stressful and the outcome of the fight uncertain, you still have a good chance of getting the fish out!
To accompany it
Opinions vary as to which reel should be fitted to this Black Voodoo 76. You can install a reel between size 1000 and 2500.
A size 2500 reel is not too big for this rod.
Personally, for the sake of balance and comfort, given that the rod is 2.30 meters long, I've fitted a lightweight reel in size 2500 with a full-groove spool. The full groove allows you to fill it with small-diameter line without having to use backing.
To fill out this reel, I have an affinity for the use of nylon, in 18/100 or 20/100. Nylon accentuates the "ltr" side of the rod and limits loupers. What's more, you can attach the lure directly, without having to make a leader. It is also possible to use PE 0.6 braid.
My opinion
I already had the Palms Voodoo 76 rod, which is the predecessor of this S-Craft Black Voodoo 76. I was so satisfied with it, and as many of my friends borrowed it from me because they liked it so much, that I bought this new version.
This new version is as good as the old one, very similar, the only downside being that the reel seat is much less comfortable to hold, which is a real shame.
