Comfort
A full day's fishing with a bag full of tackle requires a minimum of comfort if you are to have a good time on the water.
It's a good idea to choose a bag with thick foam on the part that will be glued to your back, as this will ensure that you don't feel the weight of the boxes pressing on your spine. The heavier a bag is, the more important it is to make it comfortable to wear over the long term. For those who like to walk long distances, opt for straps with clips that tighten them together, so that they rest against your torso and prevent the bag from swinging when you walk.
Make sure you choose a bag that's right for you. Although it may seem surprising, a bag that's too big will tend to bump against your hips, and one that's too small won't be comfortable either. The aim is to optimize storage in relation to the volume you need.
Quick storage
When you're fishing with a bag on your back, you may need a pair of pliers, a pair of scissors or a small box containing your favorite lures. It would be a shame to have to remove the bag and open every pocket to find what you're looking for, especially if you're in a hurry. Choose a bag with quick storage compartments that are easily accessible, such as small pockets on the sides of the bag or even positioned on the front or shoulder straps.
There are backpack models with quick-release compartments that can be completely modified to your liking, optimizing your comfort and efficiency at the water's edge. Velcro pockets are the most practical, as they are as quick to open as they are to close. Zippered pockets are undoubtedly the safest, as they can't open if your bag turns upside down, so you won't lose any gear.
Cane holders
A good backpack is not always designed with fishing in mind, and can therefore be lacking in small, useful accessories. Bags created by fishing brands are much better suited to this purpose, and some of them feature rod holders on the side or back, which are extremely practical.
These can be used to take several rods with you without having to carry them, or simply to store one when you're walking and don't need it. You can also place an easily accessible landing net to secure your catch.
