Squid fishing from the shore is a fun technique to start fishing in the sea and have fun quickly. Find different advices to catch your first squid very quickly.

When to fish for squid from the shore?

When the temperatures cool down and the amount of sunlight starts to decrease, it's time to go squid fishing. White squid, loligo vulgaris the squid is present on all the coasts of France. With the arrival of autumn, the schools of squid come closer to the coasts for the greatest pleasure of fishermen on board. They will remain, in general, within reach of rod until the beginning of spring. This is a long period of time to enjoy squid fishing, which is easy and fun.

Squid fishing from the shore is done from dusk until dawn. Squid generally live close to the bottom (above 20 meters) during the day, and move closer to the coast as soon as the sun begins to set.

Squid can be present on many different spots, but some places are to be prospected in priority.

  • The dykes

Dikes and harbor entrances are very good places to find marauding squid. Squid like harbors because they chase forage fish that tend to take refuge within the harbor infrastructure.

  • The rocky points

The rocky points allow to fish in more important funds, sometimes beyond 10 meters of depth. This break is often a place where squid gather to feed after dark. It is however necessary to be very careful when venturing at night on the rocky coast, because an accident can happen very quickly.

  • The lit places

All lit places can be good spots to fish for squid. The light attracts small fish (joà "l, antherin, anchoviesâeuros¦), preys very sought after by squids in quest of easy food.

Equipment for squid fishing

The equipment for squid fishing is rudimentary, a casting rod, a reel with braid or nylon and jigs or calamari. A long landing net and a headlamp are useful to fish from the shore at night.

Jigs, also called squids, are lures specially designed for fishing cephalopods. An atypical lure that looks like a shrimp or imitates a fish, on which is fixed a "basket" that acts as a hook.

There is a multitude of jigs, some of which must be simply reeled in line, others must be animated with small strokes of the tip. The choice of colors and swimming depths is also vast.

To start, choose jigs to be brought back in a linear way, in pink or orange colors. Once you are hooked on squid fishing, you will have time to discover the different possibilities offered by the equipment dedicated to this very special fishing technique.
