Mullets are a group of fish belonging mainly to the Mugilidae family. Several species of mullet frequent the Mediterranean coasts, each with specific morphological characteristics and behaviors. These include the lippu mullet, the golden mullet, the pig mullet and the poch mullet. These omnivorous fish respond very well to various fishing techniques using bait.
The most effective natural baits
Breadcrumbs, sometimes rolled into pellets, are very attractive to mullet, which love them and can forget about being wary. It is most often used when fishing with a float or buldo, but can also be baited directly onto a line fitted with a simple hook and a few buckshot weights, or even onto a small lead head.
Marine worms, and more specifically half-hard worms, are recognized by anglers as the king of baits. A bait mainly used in competition, especially surfcasting. Red worms can also work, especially in situations where there's a current.
Small pieces of shrimp or sardine can also be used to search for mullet. These pieces of fresh bait are also very popular, provided they are adapted to the mullet's small mouth.

Other natural options
Different types of algae may be of interest to mullets. Mules naturally graze on seaweed on rocks. It's up to you to spot the ones that serve as a meal. Fishing is usually done close to the shore when the sea is slightly choppy, to foil the fish's distrust.
Occasionally, mullets feed on small insects or crustaceans, but these are only used occasionally and remain less popular than bread and worms.
