Fluorocarbon Varivas
When fluorocarbon was first introduced to the fishing industry, there were all kinds of questionable qualities. From the beginning, Varivas came up with a quality product, still as good today!
The linear strength of Varivas fluorocarbon is perfect. If it breaks, it always happens at the knot. For knots, with large diameters, I often use the "mushroom" knot and it has never broken because it is 100% fluorocarbon.
The other advantage of this composition is that it is almost invisible underwater, because its light refraction index is close to that of water.
This is not the case with hybrid fluorocarbons, on which it is not specified 100%. This type of fluorohybrid does not have the same use, and it is rather to be reserved as body of line, whereas this Varivas is conceived to make the leaders of line!
Its resistance to abrasion is also very good. If it rubs against rocks or branches, it will not break easily.
Finally, it is available in 15 different diameters, from 26 to 105/100, which covers a good part of the needs, in fresh water as well as in sea.
Well-designed coils
In addition to all its good qualities, another aspect I pay attention to is its storage. It is stored on a sturdy reel, with an elastic band to protect and hold it, so that it does not unroll.
This tape also protects from UV rays and all the elements that could attack the fluorocarbon. Most importantly, this tape is a different color for each diameter. Thus, even if the label becomes illegible, we are able to find which diameter it is.
Moreover, the reference is printed in large on the reel, so it is easy to identify the one you want. This reference is printed on the label with a glossy finish, it lasts very long and is absolutely waterproof. If any part of the label should be torn, the inscription on the label remains clearly visible.
I appreciate products like this, where you feel that they have been studied to the end, not just in a design office, but in the field, by and for the users.
This point is not a detail to be neglected, because a 30 meter reel, in diameters of 60 or 100/100 is something that takes several years to empty. It is therefore necessary that the contents are as strong and durable as what is inside.
My opinion
I have been using Varivas fluorocarbon for over ten years, for my lure and fly fishing leaders, and I still love it. It meets all the specifications you expect from this product and with its solid quality spools, you are sure to use it to the last centimeter.
