What is the blowback rig?
Often made of sheathed braid, the blowback rig has a semi-rigid part and a flexible part. The main characteristic is the increased mobility of the hair and therefore its mechanism. Indeed, the hair is attached to a ring that slides as needed on the shaft of the hook.
This mechanism allows the bait to be tilted towards the back of the hook. The mass of the bait then drags the hook into the lower lip and accentuates the pre-spike. On a conventional leader, the bait and hook would be thrown out. Not so with the blowback rig, or more honestly, less so. In addition, this increased mobility of the hair and bait assembly does not allow the fish to lean on it to get off the hook.

For what purpose?
This easy to make rig is best suited for dense, balanced baits. It also provides an excellent presentation. It is moreover versatile, since by adapting the right materials, it can be used on all biotopes. The blowback rig is particularly suitable for fussy carp.

The necessary material
- X-WRAP 25 lbs braided packing
- Starbaits Curved Shank #6 hook
- 3 mm ring.
- 2.4 mm thermo tube
- A pair of scissors
- A SB Bait Stopper
- A knot puller
- A needle
The steps of realization
1) Cut 50 cm of X-Wrap braid.

2) Strip 20 cm of the braid piece.

3) Make a loop (bare side) for the hair in relation to the bait. The loop knot can be used to lock the bait together.

4) Escher.

5) Pass the braid through a ring and tie a simple knot. Before tightening the knot, adjust the desired length.

6) Insert the ring on the hook (at the curve in front of the barb). Pass the point towards the hair.

7) Pass the braid through the outside of the eyelet while keeping the ring in the right position.

8) Tie a knot without a knot and then go back through the eyelet from the outside.

9) Cut 1.5 cm of heat shrink tubing and bevel one end. Thread the tubing to hide the knot on the non-beveled side. It will also be used to extend the axis of the eyelet for better aggressiveness (also accentuated by the bevel). Shrink with boiling water.

10) Put an anti-tangle sleeve and make an end loop.

To perfect this blowback rig, it is possible to add a buckshot lead coated with lead paste at the beginning of the sheathed braid part in order to add mass for the pre-spike.

Even if perfection does not exist, just watch underwater videos to be convinced, the blowback rig remains one of the best anti-spill leaders.
